Age Concern Forest of Dean is a small charity providing meals to individual elderly people and lunch clubs and a befriending service, also to the elderly.

We’ve never taken part in #givingtuesday before so this is a new experience for us, one we’re looking forward to!

To celebrate the day we have hired the hall at a local Rugby Club hall and we will be offering a 2 course lunch for £4.00 to showcase our meals and advertise our service. This is an extension of what we do everyday; Age Concern currently supplies 18 lunch clubs across the Forest and 125 elderly individuals with hot, 3-course meals. These meals are delivered from the kitchen in Cinderford to the plate of the clients, a service that is a great help to those who may be disabled, elderly, or unable to cook for themselves. Through this service we are helping to elderly people to continue to live in their own homes independently.

We employ 15 people, 13 of them in Cinderford, but importantly we have around 100 volunteers who deliver meals, act as Befrienders or work in our 2 shops in Lydney and Cinderford from which the bulk of our income is sourced. These volunteers will play a vital role in helping us with our #givingtuesday plans.

In the afternoon of #givingtuesday we will serve tea and cakes and run a cake stall, all of which will be provided by our volunteers.

We hope that people in the area will see our work and will consider supporting us on #givingtuesday and beyond.
