Teach your students about charities on Giving Tuesday
Over 2,500 charities and businesses are taking part in this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign, on the 27th of November. The campaign, which began in America in 2012 before being brought to the UK in 2013 by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), is an antidote to the mass consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It aims to get people thinking of others in the run up to Christmas, be it through donating to charity, volunteering or simply helping a friend, neighbour or family member.
Last year celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Emma Watson publicly supported the campaign, alongside big brands such as Virgin, ASOS and Sainsbury’s. Giving Tuesday raised over $300m in online donations alone with people participating from 150 countries and territories, even including Antarctica!
We think that it’s a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about charities, get involved in a cause they care about and work together to make a positive impact on the lives of others. That’s why we have put together this quick classroom activity for schools – the Word document below has all the instructions and the PDF has the templates that need to be printed off.
If you have any feedback or suggestions about this activity then we’d love to hear from you on firstname.lastname@example.org
