Giving Tuesday UK – new for 2026
The countdown to Giving Tuesday has started. Kicking off the festive giving season, the international celebration of generosity will take place on 1st December – just 12 weeks away.
As the lead organisation for the UK campaign, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising has drawn together a range of resources for 2026 to help charities make the most of the day.
Celebrate the power of volunteering
As 2026 is the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, the UN’s global spotlight on the power of volunteer action, Giving Tuesday will mark the first day of generosity week, which will run from 1-5th December. This opens up new windows of opportunities for charities to fundraise and thank the people who have supported them.
To help all charities raise awareness of the positive difference giving makes, IAVE and Giving Tuesday have created a collection of ready-to-share visuals created to inspire generosity, connection, and meaningful action. Charities can download template social media posts and edit them to suit their campaign.
Raise more money through crowdfunding
Giving Tuesday can provide an opportunity for charities to use crowdfunding to engage supporters and raise funds. The Chartered Institute of Fundraising has worked with Crowdfunder UK to share practical advice for charities considering crowdfunding or other forms of collective giving. The guidance covers developing and promoting a crowdfunding campaign, as well as using a prize draw as another way of engaging supporters.
According to Crowdfunder UK, pledges on Giving Tuesday are 71% higher than on an average day. Data also suggests that crowdfunding can have wider benefits, with 36% of projects reporting an increase in volunteering and more than half reporting new partnerships or collaborations as a result of their campaign.
Claire Stanley, director of policy and communications at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, said:
“This year marks five years of the CIOF leading the UK Giving Tuesday campaign. Over that time we’ve seen how innovative, well co-ordinated campaigns can be instrumental in raising awareness of the positive difference charities make. At the same time, they’ve raised vital funds to support services and, for some, started lifelong journeys with new supporters.
Whether you are launching your first Giving Tuesday campaign, or looking at new ways to strengthen your plans for this year, please reach out to us and we will do what we can to help.”
