Giving Tuesday “a unique opportunity” to celebrate support for charities

Charities up and down the country are gearing up for Giving Tuesday – the global day of giving, that celebrates generosity and kindness in all its forms – which falls on December 3.

With just one week to go, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising, along with Minister for Civil Society Stephanie Peacock, is calling on charity supporters to consider what they might do to support the causes close to their heart this Giving Tuesday.

This year’s theme is Give Your Way – exploring all the various ways people can get involved in charitable giving, from volunteering their time and voice, to donating gifts, to shopping in local charity shops – all the way to signing up to regular donations or even leaving a legacy gift in their Will.

And Big Give – the UK’s largest match funding campaign – will launch its Christmas Challenge on Giving Tuesday, meaning all charities signed up to the Challenge will have their donations doubled between Giving Tuesday on 3 December and Tuesday 10 December.

“Giving Tuesday provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the many ways people can support our nation’s charities. There are so many special and meaningful ways to make a difference, as this year’s ‘Give Your Way’ theme highlights. It could be as simple as lending your voice to a charity’s campaign, making a donation, or signing up to attend a fundraising event for a cause that resonates with you.”

Stephanie Peacock, Minister for Civil Society

“Every year, Big Give’s Christmas Challenge showcases the incredible generosity of the public and the power of collective giving. Running from 3-10 December, this year’s campaign is set to be our most impactful yet, with a record number of charities participating. By matching donations, we’re not just doubling funds but doubling the hope and support we can provide to charities facing immense challenges. Together we can make a profound difference this festive season.”

Alex Day, Managing Director of Big Give

“Giving Tuesday is about celebrating kindness and generosity across the world – at a time when we need it most. If you have ever thought about getting involved in charitable giving, whether that’s through volunteering, donating gifts or money, or even leaving a legacy in your Will, Giving Tuesday is the perfect time to start. There is no gift too small – even the smallest acts of kindness, like checking in on a friend, can have a huge impact.”
