As the countdown to Giving Tuesday on 29 November gets closer, we are thrilled to see what organisations are up to in the lead up to the big day. With so many other things going on in the world right now, and what probably feels like little time to go, we wanted to share some easy and quick tips which will mean every charity can be part of it. If you haven’t started your campaign yet or worry that you can’t make the most of the remaining month, don’t panic! No matter what stage you are at, here are a few things you can do to get your message out there and make this a Giving Tuesday to remember.

If you haven’t started your campaign yet…

It’s very simple to become a Giving Tuesday Partner, enabling you to join the likes of big charities such as Oxfam and Shelter, and smaller charities like Mae Murray Foundation and BulliesOut. Giving Tuesday is the biggest celebration of charitable giving across the UK (and the world!), and the voice of every single charity is important! As well as helping to amplify and broaden the reach of your campaigning, partnering with us gives you exclusive access to many helpful resources and information. These include email updates with everything you need to know about Giving Tuesday going forward, in addition to downloadable digital assets, from logos to Instagram stickers.

Find inspirational ideas for your campaigns

There are countless examples out there of ground-breaking campaigns, and not just largescale ones – many smaller charities with limited time and capacity have really pulled it out of the bag, and you can too! If you’re unsure where to start, this wonderful blog shares 16 inspiring campaign ideas, from e-cards to volunteer pledge drives. Whatever asks you want to make to best suit your organisational aims, this piece has something for everyone. One of the many great examples we’d like to highlight is the campaign work of Tiny Tickers – for every £10 donated by supporters, a family is provided with a support pack and an extra special hug button, reminding them that they aren’t alone. Thanks to their success on Giving Tuesday, they were able to send packs to over 600 families!

Decide on a simple campaign

Do you want to encourage people to volunteer their time? Are you looking to thank those for the work they do and how proud you are of them? Giving Tuesday can be used in any way that works for you and your charity – so tailor the campaign as you see fit. For example, you could use it to launch your winter campaign, or to send thank you notes to supporters.

Try something different

82% of organisations use Giving Tuesday to try something new and different. Hooking onto a global day of giving means you can step outside the box of your normal fundraising and social activity – you could try a more informal, jokey language, target a different demographic. Feel free to be playful with your communications!

Create a bespoke fundraising page

Using fundraising pages is a great way to link your Giving Tuesday communications to a simple way for people to give donations to you. Many fundraising platforms allow you to embed your own branding, customise how it looks, and ensure that your audience have a positive user experience. JustGiving, the Giving Partner in the UK for this year’s Giving Tuesday, have launched an exclusive donations portal that enables anyone, anywhere to support the movement. Importantly, all donations made through the portal will have 0% fees with 100% of every donation going to your cause! Find out more about it by watching the webinar recording here.
