This #givingtuesday the British Skin Foundation team want to champion two incredible brothers. Jude Massey and Dr Greg Bailey aka the Ocean Brothers are taking on the immense challenge of rowing unaccompanied across the Atlantic Ocean in aid of the British Skin Foundation.

Their aim is to raise an incredible £100,000 for skin cancer research and increase public awareness of the devastating disease.

The brother’s late father and stepfather passed away in August 2015 after an arduous 16 year long battle with skin cancer. One year following his death the brothers made a decision to cross the second largest ocean in the world to raise vital funds for skin cancer research.

Every single day in the UK 7 people lose their battle with skin cancer, and unfortunately, rates continue to rise. Help to make a difference to thousands of lives this #givingtuesday.

We are so excited to be a part of #GivingTuesday for the first time and will be thanking our fantastic and loyal existing supporters by running a social media campaign celebrating our achievements of the past 11 years. We also hope to engage and inspire new supporters to join in our efforts and enable us to scale up our work to create transformative, sustainable positive change in the lives of indigenous Papuan men, women and children.

Papua Partners was launched back in 2006 with the aim of equipping and enabling people to build better futures for their families and communities. Since then it is estimated that our work and the work of our partners has impacted the lives of over 100,000 Indigenous Papuans.

West Papua is the western half of the island of New Guinea and is the poorest province in Indonesia. 32% of the population lives below the poverty line and extreme poverty is widespread. The necessity to tackle poverty and injustice in West Papua is urgent and extensive and Papua Partners is fully committed to bringing about this essential change.

At Papua Partners we work with local organisations, communities, churches and individuals, through many avenues including training, facilitation and mentoring. Our ongoing programs include child and adult education; health and HIV/AIDS awareness; Church and Community Mobilisation (empowering communities to address local issues in a tangible and sustainable way), savings groups; small business development training and tackling gender-based violence. These and other positive initiatives are designed to improve livelihoods in a sustainable and self-perpetuating way.

Just a few of our achievements attained with our partners over the last 10 years include:

– Provision of basic education (literacy and numeracy) to over 8000 children in remote communities through Yasumat Parallel Schools Programme;
– Development and establishment of Eruwok Community Training Centre in Bokondini which is providing computer skills, handicraft training, as well as training health workers for 20 communities and setting up a thriving 300+ Member Savings Group;
– A significant reduction in maternal and child mortality has been achieved in partnership with Yasumat through building the skills of over 200 rural health workers in Yahukimo, as well as raising awareness on HIV and AIDS in over 200 communities;
– Improved lives and livelihoods in over 100 communities through small business development and training, small animal raising, savings groups and water supply;
– Trained skilled facilitators from 40 different churches to establish and sustain a Church, Community and Change process which has seen communities start to reconcile long held disputes, build roads and infrastructure, fix the houses of poorer members and mobilise their youth for positive and impactful community action.

We got involved with #GivingTuesday through work with our charity clients. We get to see so much of the amazing work that goes on behind the scenes and wanted to utilise our skills to create something of use to all charities.

Think Experience was created after reading about a gap in digital skills in the charity sector in the recent NPC report ‘Charities Taking Charge’. Not all charities can afford to work with a digital experience agency to help them design and deliver their next website or digital product. Although information exists on areas such as UX, websites and digital products, it’s not always presented in the best way. We have created a series of individual chapters containing techniques, strategies and tools designed to act as a knowledgeable companion which helps charities on their journey to producing digital products.

Firmly grounded in Experience Design, the chapters take readers through an entire design process which positions users at the core. From establishing and prioritising users, goals and ideal paths, to enabling frictionless interactions and test plans, Think Experience offers actionable advice and insight that charities can implement themselves.

We will be making a hard copy of Chapter One available to all the #givingtuesday charity partners. This and other chapters are also available to download for free at https://yoyodesign.com/charity-ebook-sign-up/

By giving away some of our design thinking for free, we hope to help define a brighter digital landscape for charities in the future. Most importantly, this tool should help to ensure that charities maximise the value that can be gained from digital technologies – and improve the impact they make on a daily basis to the causes and lives they care about the most.

Did you know that the blood test represents the first of the examinations that are requested to diagnose a disease? This year for #givingtuesday, the Burkina Health Foundation is launching an appeal to raise 5000€ to buy a new Electrolyte Analyzer for the Eureka Polyclinic.

Our aim is to reach sustainable healthcare solutions in Burkina Faso irrespectively of the ability to pay. Burkina Health Foundation is a UK registered non profit organization in England and Wales (nº 1116679) and in the USA with more than 10 years experience working in Burkina Faso. With this statement in mind, the foundation started working with local partners committing to build, equip and operate a large scale second level health facility in Bobo Dioulasso, the Eureka Polyclinic. What differentiates our project from other health investments is our commitment to transfer skills back to local management and medical team so the Eureka Policlinic might be run locally in a short period.

The Burkina Health Foundation is joining #givingtuesday for the first time this year. #givingtuesday is a global day of giving that seeks to promote and incentivize good practices between people. We kindly request your help to ensure that the Eureka Polyclinic is equipped with new Electrolyte Analyzer needed for the imaging diagnosis of our patients. Please help us to raise 5000€ on #givingtuesday, 28th November by donating here (https://www.justgiving.com/burkinahealthfoundation).

Action Tutoring is an education charity supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment. We empower volunteers to tutor these young people, at primary and secondary level, and help them overcome the challenges they are facing to reach their potential.

Currently in the UK today, only 1 in 3 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve the grades needed to progress in education, employment or training. This means the circumstances we are born in to affect our chances to succeed in life. This is unjust and unacceptable, and we are working to change it.
We are getting involved with #givingtuesday through our social media campaign – #7days7reasonstogive. We will be showing the impact of giving time, or money, on the young people we support and also celebrate our incredible volunteers and staff.

Giving can be in terms of time, for instance volunteering with us, or donating to us if you are unable to volunteer. The campaign will run from 22nd to 28th of November 2017.

We will be saying a big thank you to all of our current volunteers for all the time they have already given, and continue to give, to support disadvantaged pupils.

Since Action Tutoring began just over five years ago, it has supported over 5,000 young people and we are working harder to support more and more across the country.

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook @ActionTutoring and support our campaign by retweeting, liking and sharing our posts.

This Giving Tuesday Handicap International UK, a Nobel Peace Prize winning international inclusion charity, is inviting you to help child amputees live more independent and hopeful lives. We are aiming to raise £3,000, which could provide 100 new prosthetic limbs for children around the world.

Abdel Rahman, a twelve year old boy from Mosul, was sitting at home eating his breakfast one Friday morning when a missile fell on his house, causing major damage to his right leg. His family tried to flee the city and take him to hospital several times, but were forced to move from district to district with no access to medical care. By the time they got to a hospital his leg had begun to turn blue, and was beyond saving. Abdel Rahman himself made the difficult choice to have it amputated.

In June this year, his family travelled to Hasansham displaced people’s camp, where Handicap International has provided Abdel Rahman with much needed rehabilitation care, psychological support and a new prosthetic leg. Because of our support from people like you, we are able to offer these life-changing artificial limbs to children like Abdel Rahman, to help turn futures that seemed bleak into futures that are full of hope and possibility.

This Giving Tuesday we are inviting you to help child amputees like Abdel Rahman live more independent and hopeful lives. We are aiming to raise £3,000, which could provide 100 new prosthetic limbs. With your Giving Tuesday donations we can provide the opportunity for children to flourish and let them know that they are not alone. Together, we can provide the change needed for amputees to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

Here at Handicap International UK, we work tirelessly alongside disabled and vulnerable people to help meet their basic needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Since Handicap International was founded in 1982, our work has benefited several million people in more than 56 countries worldwide.

One billion people around the world live with some form of disability, making up around 15% of the global population. Despite being “the world’s biggest minority”, people with disabilities are often forgotten. They are regularly excluded from access to water, sanitation, healthcare, education and employment; and even though disabled people are usually among the most vulnerable, their needs are often overlooked by governments and by international organisations.

So, how do you get involved? You can donate directly to us via our JustGiving page, website or by texting HIUK17 £5 to 70070; or you could start a fundraising campaign for us so that we can reach our goal of 100 new artificial limbs for children around the world like Abdel Rahman. But don’t worry if you can’t donate right now, you can also share your support on Giving Tuesday by taking an #UNselfie and tagging #HandicapInternational in it! Thank you for your support!

The British Gymnastics Foundation is excited to be launching our very first Christmas Campaign on #givingtuesday this year!

At the British Gymnastics Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals and communities through gymnastics. This Christmas, we’re fundraising for our Hardship Campaign, and sharing the story of how we helped five year old Libby go through a terrible time in her life, with our brand new ambassador, Olympic bronze medallist, Beth Tweddle MBE.

Three years ago, Libby’s life was devastated by the worst thing imaginable – her mother died from Leukaemia. Left with four daughters to care for, Libby’s father understandably struggled to cope.

Just like many children across the UK, gymnastics was a fun activity that Libby could enjoy while having fun with her friends. When Libby’s aunt got in touch with the British Gymnastics Foundation, we knew that we could help.

We found a club close to their home, and paid for two terms of gymnastics classes for Libby, while her father got back on his feet.

He told us: “You changed my daughter’s life, if she is happy then I am.”

Beth Tweddle MBE recently met Libby and gave her and her gymnastics club a masterclass: “Nobody deserves to miss out on the sport that they love because of a financial hardship or time of crisis in their lives.”

How you can help

This Christmas we’re fundraising for our hardship campaign so that we can continue to give children inspiration, confidence and respite from any difficulties they are facing.

Please visit https://britishgymnasticsfoundation.org/transform-a-life to donate to our Christmas campaign, and watch the video of Beth meeting Libby, three years later.

Simon Clarke, CAF Good ‘Un 2017, is running again in the London Santa Run on December 3rd along with students from 2 schools in England as well as other Ecologia Youth Trust supporters.

Ecologia’s aim is to enable marginalised young people to realise their potential and to take an active role in promoting sustainable living all over the world so that they can improve their lives in the long term. Some of the projects we work with include International Peace Initiatives in Kenya where we are helping HIV affected mothers provide a better future for their families by training them in skills such as tailoring, and providing funding to run Kithoka Amani Community Home which cares for 30 orphaned children while allowing them to maintain close ties to their families and friends. Another more local project we support in Scotland is Growing2gether, where we help disengaged young people to develop confidence and self belief by mentoring small children.

Simon recently spent 15 months running around the coast of Britain, raising funds to enable Ecologia Youth Trust to support disadvantaged children in projects around the world. Simon set off in March 2016, and he completed the run just a few months ago on July 5th 2017 – his 58th birthday.When Simon set off from the Moray Firth on Easter Sunday, 2016, his aim was simple: to challenge himself to a journey of self-discovery and find out how he would cope with being pushed to the edge of his physical and mental endurance, while raising £20,000 to fund Ecologia’s work empowering youngsters to overcome their own challenging circumstances.

At the start he said: “If we can’t give all the children of the world the best start possible, we have to wonder what we’re doing here. It’s so difficult for children in materially poor countries to get to grips with education and achieve worthwhile change whilst being under nourished and shelterless. Giving – no doubt at times, grinding out – effort to benefit youngsters who have less fortuitous circumstances than mine seems the least I can do, and the thought of carrying and needing very little, while asking others to give a lot to improve the lives of children seems the best of affairs.”

For us, this year, #givingTuesday is a day to appreciate Simon’s incredible efforts and to encourage him in his upcoming Santa Run along with his fellow runners, who are all running in order to raise funds for disadvantaged children.

We would love to hear from anyone who would like to join us and Simon running in the Santa Run, or use #givingtuesday as an opportunity to help him raise more much needed funds!

Kevin Webber announced as this year’s campaign ambassador for his incredible feats in support of Prostate Cancer UK

#givingtuesday is led in the UK by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and will take place on Tuesday 28th November. It calls for people to ‘do good stuff’ for causes.

Each year, our charity champion search looks for someone who embodies the ethos of #givingtuesday – someone who is great at doing good stuff! This year, we’re delighted to reveal our campaign ambassador as Kevin Webber, who has raised over £200,000 for the charity Prostate Cancer UK. Since being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014, Kevin has taken part in various charity challenges, from an ultramarathon in the Sahara to other races across the world, all to raise awareness and funds for the charity.

His generosity and desire to help others are exactly what #givingtuesday is all about. On hearing the news that he had won Kevin said:

“There are so many ordinary people who behind the scenes are doing so much for others whilst in adversity themselves that it must have been a near impossible choice to pick a winner.

Kevin Webber, Charity Champion

Being told that you may have only two years to live with terminal prostate cancer aged 49 was such an emotional shock for my family. And yet starting chemotherapy shortly after was my epiphany that made me realise how much life is for living, and how I want no other family to have to go through what mine is.

I am doing these challenges to inspire people to live for the day, challenge themselves, do something to help others and push their boundaries.”

Ben Russell, Director of Communications at Charities Aid Foundation, said:

“This campaign is all about highlighting the good deeds we can do for others. “Kevin has completed some astounding charity challenges and we’re sure his story will inspire others to make a difference and show their support for a good cause.”

Each year, we share our charity ambassador’s story as inspiration for others who might want to get involved in #givingtuesday. Want to know more about what you could do? Find out here
